Police Dept. Crime Tips

Protecting Your Vehicle from Theft

1.  PROTECT YOUR KEYS

Never leave your keys in the vehicle.

2.  SECURE YOUR VEHICLE

Always lock your vehicle.  An unlocked vehicle makes it very easy for a thief.

3.  LIGHTING

Park in a well lit area.  If you have a garage, use it.  For carports, install motion detectors or leave the carport light on.  Thieves look for vehicles parked in the dark.

4. REMOVE TEMPTATION

Take purses, wallets, and other valuables inside with you.  If you must leave anything of value in the vehicle, store it in the trunk.

*IMPORTANT*

If you do see someone breaking into your vehicle, do not confront them. Contact Barling Police immediately and be a good witness.  Take note of the clothing, direction of travel when they left, male/female, build, etc.  This will help police and keep you safe.
